Kay Trimberger earned her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Chicago. She has taught at a number of Universities including Columbia University; Barnard College, Queens College of the City University of New York, U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Santa Barbara, and San Jose State University. From 1981 - 2000 she was Coordinator of the Women's Studies(now Women's and Gender Studies) Program at Sonoma State University. Currently, Dr. Trimberger is Professor Emerita in the Women's & Gender Studies Department at Sonoma State University and a visiting scholar at the Institute for the Study of Social Change at U.C., Berkeley.

Trimberger is the author of two other books, including Intimate Warriors: Writings from a Modern Marriage, 1899 -1944. (The Feminist Press). She has written a number of articles including: "Women in the Old and New Left: The Evolution of a Politics of Personal Life," Feminist Studies; "Feminism, Men and Modern Love: Greenwich Village, 1900-1925," in Powers of Desire: The Politics of Sexuality; and "Heterosexuality" in The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History. Kay Trimberger has published teaching materials and numerous reviews and review essays in The Women's Review of Books, The Nation, Contemporary Sociology, Theory & Society and The Harvard Education Review among others. In addition, she has published journalistic articles in The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Jose Mercury, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, and In These Times.

Professor Trimberger has received research grants and support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Murray Research Center at Harvard University, and the California State University among others.

Dr. Kay Trimberger, a never-married woman and mother, lives in Berkeley California, where she enjoys the company of her son, friends, colleagues, and community.
